If your office is like ours, you have an open-plan layout and ‘quiet rooms’ you can escape to when you need to concentrate or hold impromptu meetings.
Our legacy room-booking system is pretty cumbersome. For starters, you have to put a meeting in Outlook before you can reserve a room. If you don’t, and simply occupy a seemingly unoccupied space, you risk being thrown out five minutes later.
As a compromise, not all our rooms are ‘bookable’ . Most zones have a few ‘in-zone’ spaces that can only be reserved manually – by pencilling in your booking in a ledger or putting up a sticky-note with your name and the time you need it. Quickly finding a space to sit down in private with a colleague or finding a space for an internal meeting day after tomorrow, thus means running around checking.
BeamWriter now offers an alternative. By putting a (physical) beacon in a (physical) room AND associating it with the corresponding ‘bookable’ BeamWriter ‘room’, you can see what rooms are free, when they will be free if occupied, and make a reservation, all on your phone, without leaving your desk.
Check out this blog post for a run-down on using beacons with BeamWriter.
